GIS coverages in this directory are focussed on the Eel River CZO research site named 'Rivendell'. It is located in Angelo Coast Range Reserve, a UC Natural Reserve System reserve. It is in Mendocino, California near Laytonville. Dataset used is NCALM South Fork Eel River 2004, Mary Power PI. Target area has the South Fork Eel River on the west going north-south and Elder Creek center going east-west.

All coverages are in UTM zone 10, datum NAD83. Units are meters.

rivendell_boundary: shapefile boundary of the first order cachement that is our primary research site.
rivendell_raster_boundary: rectangle bounding box covering the following rasters and our proposed training dataset. Note: the extent may be too large. This may need to be constrained, since it is difficult to perform on the ground surveys on the far side of the South Fork Eel River.

Rivendell_Trees_HandIdentified: point shapefile of large conifers, mostly doug fir, visually identified using the rivendell1mvegheight raster. There are 32 large trees.

rivendell1mcan: raster 1x1 m cell size. Canopy elevation from sea level. Processed by Collin Bode using the highest point within cell. Manual error cleaning.

rivendell1mdem: raster 1x1 m cell size. Bare-earth elevation. NCALM processed using Terrascan.

rivendell1mvegheight: raster 1x1 m cell size. Difference between canopy and bare-earth. Note: some tree sizes are exagerated due to tree lean on steep slopes.

Rivendell_LiDAR2009_Profiles: Graphs of LiDAR2009 point cloud ground & non-ground in north-south stripes with 10m width.
