PBO Strain data available at the NCEDC

Seismogram bar

The NCEDC is pleased to announce the availability of strain data from the Plate Boundary Observatory (PBO) component of the EarthScope Project. Earthscope is a Major Research Initiative of the National Science Foundation (NSF).

PBO is a geodetic observatory designed to study the three-dimensional strain field resulting from deformation across the active boundary zone between the Pacific and North American plates in the western United States. The observatory consists of arrays of Global Positioning System (GPS) receivers and strainmeters which will be used to deduce the strain field on timescales of days to decades.

As of 6/24/2005, data from the first two laser strainmeters data are available in their native format. Data in SEED format should be available soon. Information on the NCEDC archive of PBO data is here.

The NCEDC is a joint project of the University of California, Berkeley and the USGS. Please send us email at www@ncedc.org or fill out our comments form if you have questions or comments about these changes.
