Earthquake catalog search and map

Seismogram bar

This is an experimental version of our main earthquake catalog search. This version provides a selection of output maps, along with a list of events in the simplified output format. Enjoy!

Please note - these earthquake catalogs are typically updated on a daily basis. If you just felt an earthquake and want to see where it is located, please visit the Recent earthquakes Web site.

ANSS Global composite catalog
USGS Northern California catalog
UCB Northern California and vicinity catalog

Three different catalogs may be searched - 2 which focus on northern California and 1 global catalog. This interface allows you to plot the earthquakes on one of several different maps and receive a list of the events in simplified format. Please note that selection of a map defines the geographical extent of the search.

In order to keep the maps and lists a reasonable size, the catalog search is limited to 5,000 events.

World map
USA (conterminous) map
Northern California map
San Francisco Bay Area map

Note on plots: Earthquakes on the World and USA maps are plotted as scaled circles for events of M5.0 and higher and as points for smaller magnitudes. Earthquakes on the Northern California and Bay Area maps are plotted as scaled circles for events of M3.0 and higher and as points for smaller events.

******** PLEASE NOTE *********

Our catalogs are maintained in compressed files, which means that a search that span multiple years may take a long time (eg minutes). Please be patient, and wait for the result of your search.
