Retrieve one of four files. These contain the official release of MSHEAR R-36/09-0531. If there is a file mscfg010630.lzh or later, get this binary file also. It contains any corrections or additions to the configuration files. MS01062900.bo complete release for bin00 systems (OR Q680's, Q730d) MS01062921.bo complete relaease for bin21 systems (Q680, Q4120) MS010629AL.bo complete release for all three types bin00 is for 68000 series processors, Model Q680 LT, Q680 LX or 730 ram disk bin21 is for 68030 series processors, Model Q680 LV DV, Q4120 If you have no problem transferring the larger AL file, use that. The files can be found in ftp://quake.geo.berkeley.edu/pub/quanterra/mshear/release Below are some initial instructions. These are backout files. To install these you can start with a formatted disk or you can rename all directories and files in a MSHEAR or USHEAR system, then backin and then deldir -qf the renamed directories. This is not as hard as it sounds since you need only rename stuff in the /h0 directory. Try the procedure file /h0/mshear/cfg/sysboot_1/backover, or the more specialized scripts back.doit.4120 included in sample.procedures. If you are renaming directories, it is helpful to create at least /h0/SYS/password before launching the backin in case there is an error somewhere and you need to log in. The backover script does this. AN IMPORTANT NOTE FOR Q680 types: The release contains a file /h0/OS9Boot.new This is a valid boot file for OS9 systems that boot from disk. However the file must be linked in order to be found during bootup. The file itself has not changed with MSHEAR and if you have a disk working since 1994 you can continue to use it without any changes, just delete this new file using (attr -w OS9Boot.new ; del OS9Boot.new). If you want to use the new file, you must link it by entering the following before booting; chd /h0fmt OS9gen /h0fmt -q=os9boot.new -eb=100k In MSHEAR, the file startup remains running so you cannot delete it, just rename it and then after rebooting you can delete it. The backin will not make /h0/startup, instead it writes startup_choose1. Edit this file for the system type and name it startup. If you downloaded a file mscfg010629.lzh or later, you need to extract this to update the configuration files. Do this after you have completed the backin but before reboot. If you have an MSHEAR system and want to preserve your current settings, create a key archive to extract on the new system; chd /h0 lharc -at Ksave.lzh MSHEAR/CFG/NETWORKS/BOSAI MSHEAR/CFG/NETWORKS/DEFAULT MSHEAR/CFG/STATIONS/QT2 you can then extract this on the new system, edt /h0/mshear/cfg/.selection for this key and your off and running. If you do not have an mshear development system, you start now. make a new directory in /h0/mshear/cfg/networks for example BOSAI. Copy all the files in MASTER to BOSAI. Edit the files *.sample to your needs. Copy hosts.sample to hosts. You can change the file names *.sample to *.yournetwork. Create a station directory as /h0/mshear/cfg/stations/new and copy one of the example keys into this directory. Edit the key for your needs. Edit /h0/mshear/cfg/.selection to indicate this new station directory.
