This ftp archive contains software and information useful for persons or
groups that use Quanterra, Inc. seismic dataloggers.

NOTES:	
    1.	Files that end with ".Z" are compressed with the Unix
	"compress" command.  Use "uncompress" to uncompress them.
    2.	Files that end with ".gz" are compressed with the GNU "gzip" command.
	Use the "gunzip" program to uncompress them.  The source to gzip
	and gunzip (the same program), and executables for SunOS and Solaris
	are available in this directory.
    3.	Many of the program here require qlib or qlib2.
	You should ALWAYS get a current version of the library whenever
	you retrieve any other program.

Recommended minimal software for sites that wish to run comserv are:
1a.	comserv		(tar file in comserv directory)
			- server program that communicates with Quanterra DA.
1b.	clients.ucb	(included in comserv tar file)
			- netmon program to manage comserv, datalog to save data.
	qmerge		(tar file in ucb directory)
			- program to extract data in miniSEED from disk files.
	qlib2		(tar file in ucb directory)
			- library used for many of the above utilities.

comserv.1.0.tar.Z - Official release 1.0 of comserv server and Quanterra
		clients (dpda, msgmon, dataread, config) for Unix.  Requires
		UltraSHEAR Release 35/06-0229 (or later).  It is NOT
		guaranteed to work with earlier versions of UltraSHEAR due
		to changes in the link structure for the DA-comserv
		communications link.
clients.ucb -	UCB clients for comserv.  Includes:
		netmon - program for managing network of comserv progs and clients.
		datalog - program to save data to disk files in SEED telemetry format.
config.tar.Z    - sample configuration directory for comserv.
		bin directory is not up-to-date -- update from
		comserv/beta5.
qlib.tar.Z      - qlib library and source
qmerge.tar.Z    - qmerge and source
qedit.tar.Z	- qedit program for editing miniSEED headers, 
		  adding time corrections, etc to miniSEED files.
pql.steim_1_2   - pql with quick hack to support steim1 and
		  steim2 miniseed.
pql.tar.Z	- pql program source with steim1/steim2 support.
seistool.Z      - seistool executable
seistool_static.Z       - seistool executable linked static.
qsac2sdr.tar.Z	- program to convert quanterra sac files to miniSEED.
nlog.tar.Z	- program to convert event detection picks to ascii.
caldate.tar.Z	- date calculation program used by qdata
qdata.tar.Z	- perl program to extract quanterra data from 
		  telemetry files, staged daily extraction directories,
		  and archived daily extraction directories.
qsac2sdr.tar.Z	- program to convert quanterra SAC files to miniseed.
sdrsplit.tar.Z	- program to demultiplex block-multiplexed minseed files.
ms2sac.tar.Z	- program to convert single channel miniSEED file to SAC file.
quan2dbx.tar.Z	- program to convert quanterra data to modified DBX (geoscope) 
		  format or to ASCII format.
msunpack.tar.Z	- program to unpack into miniSEED packed console log, 
		  timing logs, calibration logs, and event detection logs 
		  retrieved from Quanterras with dialup retrieve program.

distrib.cit.v1.0 - software developed by Caltech.  Includes:
	cda      : This directory contains software which creates and uses a
		circular RAM buffer for waveform data.
	comserv  : This is a recent copy of the Quanterra comserv code.
	datasock : This comserv client is used to distribute waveform data
		from comserv to application programs.
	hklib : This is a library of Fortran routines used by Hiroo Kanamori
		in his seismological application code.
	k2rt : This is a alpha version of a comserv client that converts K2
		continuous packets to Shear data packets.
	pjlib : This is a group of utility programs used by the codes in the
		distrib.cit.v1.0 distribution file.
	plotmag : This is a X-windows based program that plots magnitudes,
		rather than waveforms.
	qlib     : This is a library of routines developed at U.C. Berkeley by
		Doug Neuhauser.
	qqt5 : This is single station earthquake location program developed
		by Hiroo Kanamori.
	rerun : This is a program, or group or programs, which are used to
		stress test a Quanterra data acquisition system.
	rtlib    : This is a library of routines that were developed by
		Erik Larson while he was working at Caltech.
	tvmag : This is a magnitude calculating program that gets its data
		from a cda.
	xrt : This is a waveform plotting program which a waveform in an
		X-window.
