NAME
     NCSN.STATIONS, ncsn.stations, calnet.stations - NCSN station
     location file.

SYNOPSIS
     The ncsn.stations  file  contains  the  location  and  basic
     information  about  the  NCSN seismic stations.  It includes
     the current station name as well  as  prior  station  naming
     conventions and aliases.

     N.B. The NCSN data stored at the NCEDC use the  naming  con-
     vention in columns 1-11

     The "unique" station codes consist  of  a  3-5  letter  site
     code,  2-letter  net code and 3 letter component codes.  The
     1-letter component code is used as a label in  various  sta-
     tion  files and corresponds to the 3-letter codes where pos-
     sible, but is not unique.

     Most stations with  coordinates  to  4  decimal  places  for
     minutes  of lat/lon have been surveyed with GPS instrumenta-
     tion.  These precise locations are gradually  replacing  the
     locations  estimated  from a topographic map.  The elevation
     at these sites is referenced to the  geoid  instead  of  sea
     level.
