        On December 20, 1932 the Intensity Scale changed from the    
             Rossi-Forel to the Modified Mercalli.  Observed inten-  
             sities are given by Roman numerals in the comments.

             TIME - origin time in UTC (subtract 8 hours for PST)    
             LAT  - latitude in decimal degrees north                
             LONG - longitude in decimal degrees west                
             ML   - Richter Magnitude (local magnitude scale)        
             QU   - quality of solution / number of stations used

        *  The listed earthquake data were assembled from the      * 
        *  above sources and compiled for in-house use. Although   * 
        *  considerable care was taken in the transfer procedures, * 
        *  some errors were introduced from this source. There-    * 
        *  fore, for precise and detailed studies using these      * 
        *  lists, the original sources should be consulted. Some   * 
        *  amendments and corrections have been successively       * 
        *  incorporated in the lists. Any remaining inconsist-     * 
        *  tencies or suspicious values should be drawn to the     * 
        *  attention of the director.  Checks can then be carried  * 
        *  out against the original seismograms kept in store at   * 
        *  Berkeley.                                               *
