Budget explanation - Berkeley Seismological Laboratory We request 1 week of summer salary support for PI Romanowicz, who will be leading the project and coordinating with Metrozet, and 2 weeks of salary support for Principal Development Engineer Bill Karavas, who will be in charge of assisting Metrozet with sensor related tasks, and in particular installation and retrieval of sensors during the testing phases of the project. We request 1 month of salary support for Dr Uhrhammer, associate researcher at BSL, who will be conducting noise comparisons and other performance tests on the upgraded STS-1's. The graduate student researcher (3 months of summer support) will assist in the various testing and analysis tasks. Finally, we request a modest amount of support for miscellaneous supplies and expenses associated with this project. Finally, we request support for the purchase of a 6 channel Quanterra Q-330 recording system, which will be used for the acquisition of the test data, from two STS-1 seismometers installed side by side. - Metrozet We request 1125 hours of salary support for the Senior Metrozet Engineer, who will be in charge of developing the replacement electronics module, mehtods of repair of electromechanical components, as well as the new calibration methodology. We request 15 hours of compensation for Professor E. Wielandt, of Stuttgart University, who will act as a consultant for this project. We request travel support for 4 trips of the Metrozet Engineer to the BSL, as well as one trip to the BSL for the consultant. Finally, we request $18,750 in materials and supplies for the purchase of tools and components for the construction and testing of the upgrades to the STS-1 described in this proposal.
